As a pastor, to inspire your church to contribute to missions it starts with your personal vision for God's mission. This can't be delegated - you must find what captures your heart.
Look for missionaries or projects that are happening within your denomination or movement. Go and visit nations, find other pastors who are engaged in missions and go with them
Your passion must be genuine to inspire your congregation.
Habakkuk 2:2 MSG "And then God answered: "Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run."
We need a clear vision for our congregations to grasp and run with in their own lives.
Key communication points:
Clarity - Focus on impact, not just numbers
Tangibility - Show practical outcomes people can connect with
Vision, not need - Emphasize action and solutions

Regular reporting is crucial for maintaining a successful missions program. Too often churches ask congregation members to give to missions but never show them the impact of their giving.
Here's why and how to do it effectively:
Building Trust Through Transparency
Share regular updates
Document project milestones
Highlight specific impact stories Monthly or bi-monthly updates keep your congregation informed and engaged.
Maintaining Vision Momentum The initial excitement of a missions vision naturally diminishes over time. Combat this by:
Refreshing your communication regularly
Using varied presentation methods
Connecting local church life to global impact
Demonstrating Impact Transform abstract numbers into tangible results:
Share personal testimonies
Use visual storytelling
Highlight both immediate and long-term outcomes This approach helps donors see their giving making a real difference and encourages continued support.

The strategy which has helped Imagine Nations Church to consistently give half of its income to missions is called The Faith Promise. This is an annual missions-giving commitment made by church members above their regular tithes and offerings. Through this strategy congregation members aren’t simply giving when convinient or when they have spare funds but rather this is purposeful, faith filled giving.
KEY COMPONENTS
Members make a prayerful annual financial commitment (weekly, monthly, or annually)
These commitments help establish the missions budget
We ask them to provide their names and details for authenticity purposes and we never follow up on these commitments.
Strictly between the individual and God
BIBLICAL FOUNDATION
The scripture which sums up Faith Promise giving is 2 Corinthians 9:7-9, where is speaks of Gods provision to enable free, generous and cheerful giving.
GUIDING QUESTIONS
We encourage our congregation to ask three simple questions:
What can I Give - What fits in your current budget?
What can I give up - maybe there are some “wants I can lay aside.
What additional amount can you trust God to provide?

Engaging your congregation deeply with missions requires a multi-faceted approach that creates meaningful connections and lasting impact. Here's some ideas to develop deeper mission engagement:
1. Prayer Integration
Establish structured prayer initiatives for missions, such as:
Dedicated prayer meetings focused on specific mission fields
Monthly mission prayer calendars
Corporate fasting events aligned with mission objectives
2. First-Hand Experience
Create opportunities for direct mission field exposure through:
Short-term mission trips (1-2 weeks)
Vision trips for potential long-term missionaries
Cultural immersion experiences
3. Field Connection
Maintain vibrant communication channels with missionaries through:
Video updates
Regular missionary newsletters
Personal testimonies from visiting field workers
Partnerships with various mission organisations

As church leaders, one of the key considerations is how to structure missions giving in relation to regular tithes. The principle we've found most effective is keeping missions separate from and additional to regular tithes, allowing for sacrificial giving beyond the baseline.
This can take a step of faith from pastors as there can be a fear that you will detract from your tithes and other funds such as buildings etc. Imagine Nations Church can testify to the goodness of God that as we have faithfully given to missions God has blessed us immensely where we are currently situated on 35 acres of land and debt free.
Our church's experience demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach. Through prioritizing missions giving, we've maintained financial health while expanding our impact. Some key points have been:
Dedicated missions accounts for transparent fund management
Strategic allocation between global and local outreach initiatives
Intentional structure beyond traditional tithing models
By moving beyond the conventional tithing model (which typically caps giving at 10-15%), we've been able to dedicate 50% of our income to missions. This approach not only increases our impact but also cultivates a deeper missions-minded culture within our congregation.
As Jesus taught, "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." By creating opportunities for generous giving, we help our congregation develop a genuine heart for missions.

Key Implementation Considerations for Church Missions Programs:
Partner Accountability
Establishing robust accountability measures is essential when working with mission partners. We recommend partnering with reputable agencies and organizations while maintaining direct oversight through regular field visits and relationship building with ground teams.
Regulatory Compliance
Each jurisdiction has specific requirements for international fund transfers and charitable activities. Ensure your missions program adheres to all applicable local government regulations and reporting standards in both sending and receiving countries.
Strategic Communication
Implement systematic communication channels with field partners to maintain transparency and effectiveness. Regular updates and direct communication with supported missions enable better stewardship and more impactful partnerships.

The Faith Promise
One of the key concepts that has enabled Imagine Nations Church to give half of its income to missions is the Faith Promise. This tool takes missions from being a casual contribution to being a purpose filled commitment.
See below for how we instruct our church in Faith Promise giving.
WHAT IS A FAITH PROMISE?
A Faith Promise is a prayerful commitment that we make annually, over and above our tithe and general offerings with the specific purpose of accomplishing our vision in missions. We make this commitment with willing hearts and the faith that God will provide the means for us to give this offering over the course of the year. A Faith Promise offering can be given weekly, monthly or as a one-time gift.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
We set our missions budget off the commitments that the members of our church make. This is the reason that we ask you to put your name on the card so that we know it is a genuine commitment. Our Senior Pastor Jack Hanes and our Business Manager, Ps Rob De Martin, only see this card so that we can add the figures up and verify that they are legitimate. At no point will you be contacted and personally asked to give what you have committed in your Faith Promise. It is a faith commitment between you and God.
HOW SHOULD I APPROACH IT?
A Faith Promise is a thoughtful, heartfelt commitment to contribute to the missions work that we do as a church. It keeps missions from being something that we do as an afterthought but rather as a key part of each of our lives.
The Scripture which defines this best is 2 Corinthians 9:7-9 NLT:
You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”
Spend time in prayer, asking God what He would have you give. After you pray, thoughtfully ask yourself these three questions:
WHAT CAN I GIVE?
If I put this in my budget, what can I afford to give?
WHAT CAN I GIVE UP?
Maybe there are some “wants” I can lay aside?
AND IF I ADD MY FAITH TO IT?
What can I believe God to provide?
As you take time to pray, we believe that God will speak to you and help you to stretch your faith to see His Kingdom advance in this year ahead.
